Dance Anatomy and Kinesiology Workshop with Judith Reyn

teaching_3

A workshop that helps dancers to rethink and analyze the movement memory messages that they send their bodies – to change the pattern!

This March, Uptown Dance Centre is hosting a 2-day workshop on dance anatomy and kinesiology conducted by renowned dancer and lecturer Judith Reyn. Using anatomical explanation as a tool to achieve correct articulations of movement in dance, this workshop is designed for teachers and students of both classical and contemporary dance.

This investigative analysis will help the student/dancer to refocus and enhance technical development and performance.

For teachers, the gained knowledge becomes an essential part for educating and developing dancers. This is a great workshop for dance teachers of all disciplines.

* Note that the material builds upon itself, so both days are recommended for full benefit. The first day focuses more heavily on the anatomical structures and exercise physiology most relevant to dance, while the second day explores how teachers and dancers can apply the information in practice.

About the Workshop

The workshop begins with an intensive examination of the anatomy with all the muscular and joint articulation required for the understanding of the rotation of the limbs in ballet.

When the information of the right muscles working in the right direction is established, it is then transferred to the basic exercises required for ballet training at the barre.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will:

  1. Achieve a thorough comprehension of the anatomical articulations of the body concerning the bones, joints and muscles required for ballet movement.
  2. Gain an understanding about what exactly happens when the dancer rotates the femur (thigh bone) and humerus (upper arm bone) in the respective hip and shoulder joints.
  3. Be able to explain how this anatomical functioning influences the rest of the body so that the base required for a correctly articulated barre is quickly established.
