Spring Recital 2017, “The Orient Express”

Uptown Dance Centre is taking our students and audience to an adventure of a lifetime via The Orient Express in our year-end recital.

Our goal has always been to present the highest quality production, including professional-level music, lighting, costumes, and theater. The Hobby Center is a beautiful facility, providing exposure for our students to a professional-level theater. Uptown Dance Centre’s goal is to provide a superior dance experience for your child. We look forward to this year’s performance!

Please review the following show program (based on your child’s casting) to check for any misspelling.  Simply find your child’s name under their designated class and contact UDC office immediately if errors occurred with spelling.

If there are no issues, we do not need a response.

In Studio Run-Through 

We will be holding a run-through of The Orient Express before we arrive to the Hobby Center Theater. It is very important for your child to see how they will be interacting with the pre-professional (level 6/7) students without the distraction of lights and costumes. To help prepare them for the feel of the show with the other dancers on stage, we are holding a run-through at the studio.

CAST A CALL TIMES

Dress Rehearsal: 3:45pm – 6:00pm

  • Pre-K: Around 5:00 pm (At side hallway. Please refer to Pick-up Procedure on Pg. 2)
  • Levels I–VII: Dancers will stay at the theatre between the dress rehearsal and the show. Please pack water and snacks for the in-between break. NO “messy” food (i.e. apple sauce, cheesy foods, etc.) please.

Performance: 7:00pm – 9:00pm

CAST B CALL TIMES

Dress Rehearsal: 8:45am – 12:00pm

Dress Rehearsal Pickup Time:

  • Pre-K: 10:30 am (At side hallway. Please refer to Pick-up Procedure on Pg. 2)
  • Levels I–II: 11:00am
  • Levels III–VII: 12:00pm (can bring lunch and stay backstage; or leave and be back by 1:00pm)

Performance Call Times:

  • Pre-K, Hip-Hop, Levels I – III: 1:00pm
  • Levels IV – VII: 12:30pm

Performance: 2:00pm – 4:00pm

DROP-OFF PROCEDURES

Please drop off your dancer(s) dressed in costume with hair in bun and stage makeup.

Dancers may be dropped off at Hobby Center – Zilkha Hall lobby check-in desk. We will have someone take the dancers to the dressing rooms.

We do not have enough backstage help to do hair and makeup for the dancers.  All dancers are responsible for their own hair and makeup.

PLEASE NOTE: We love our parents, however we do not have room for you backstage in the dressing rooms.  We only have space for the dancers and Uptown Dance staff and helpers.  No parents are allowed backstage before, during or after rehearsal and show.

AFTER PERFORMANCE PICK-UP
During intermission:
  • Ballet Pre-K A & Ballet Pre-K B students will be brought to side hallway* for pick up. (* Access through door on Orchestra Left section)
After the performance, the dancers will be brought out for pick up:
  • Ballet Level I, Ballet Level II and Hip-Hop: Pick up from stage
  • Ballet Levels III–VII: Pick up from lobby

COSTUMES, HAIR & MAKEUP FOR PERFORMANCE

COSTUMES REQUIREMENTS

Uptown Dance Centre will provide the actual costume(s) for your child.  However you must purchase/provide the following items on your own for your child.

Female Dancers

  • ALL DANCERS: Nude leotard
  • Pre-K A: Pink ballet shoes + Pink tightsCapezio Ultra Soft Transition Tights (1916C) in Ballet Pink
  • Level Pre-K B thru Level VI/VII: Tan tightsCapezio Ultra Soft Transition Tights (1916C) in Light Suntan
  • Pre-K B, Level 1 – 5: Black tap shoes
  • Level 1 and Level 4: Black jazz shoes
  • Junior Company dancers ONLY: Pink tights + Pink ballet shoes
  • Level 5 and Senior Company dancers ONLY: Tan ballet shoes

HAIR REQUIREMENTS

Female Dancers

  • Tight mid-head bun- no bangs or whispies
  • Bobby pins, hair net, and hairspray are all needed for a tight bun!

Male Dancers

  • Hair should be clean and neat

MAKEUP REQUIREMENTS

  • Pre-K through Level I:
    • Blush, lipstick, and light brown eye shadow. This is to prevent their faces from washing out under the bright stage lights.
  • Levels II through VII:
    • Full stage make-up (^above with foundation, mascara, and eye liner).  Ben Nye make-up kit may be purchased at The Performing Arts Supply Road, or you may use your own.
